Starting A Blog

So you want to start a blog? It is actually pretty easy (to start that is). I have included some links below to some great resources.

There is a lot more to it than is in this short post, but this is a good start and to the point.

First things First

You need hosting. Managed WordPress Hosting is the easiest way to get started. With Managed WordPress you pay your money, pick your URL, and the provider sets everything up for you.

In this method the hardest thing (besides paying money) is choosing your URL. I recommend something catchy or even your name. Ideally you would have your URL be related to your topic. However, in a blog you can have the phrase be anything. It just has to be easy to type/remember.

*If you are blogging for your business you need the URL to be as closely related to your business or product as possible.

Choosing Your Host

I recommend Site Ground or Cedar Domains. Both are great providers. I have used both and both and have no complaints about either.

I would go with their small or medium level plans. I wouldn’t go big unless you have done this before and know you will need to be able to handle the traffic.

Setting up WordPress

If you used Managed WordPress you don’t need this section. It will take a few minutes for them to spin up your site and you are good to go.

You will be prompted to create your username and password as the Admin User.

If for some reason, you need to reinstall WordPress, here is a link to the ever popular 5 minute WordPress installation.

Generally though you can reinstall WordPress with a click of a button, and confirming you want to reinstall.
